How I Discovered Temping & The Benefits

I’ve been working as a Registered Dental Hygienist for 6+ years now. I spent 5 years working in Windsor-Essex County and 1 year in North Vancouver. This is where my eyes were opened to temping.

While living in North Vancouver I worked in general practice. After working for only a month at my new employer I was nervous to ask for December off to travel home for a wedding and the holidays. As I built up the courage to ask my new boss for so much time off, I was surprised by the response I received. “Go enjoy your life, work-life balance is important. I will use the temp agency while you’re away and your job will be waiting when you return.” Instant relief.

While working in North Vancouver I came across many temp hygienists working for my office. Whether we needed a couple of sick days covered or full weeks while my co-workers travelled. My office would call the agency and we’d have a hygienist to fill in. From a hygienist’s point of view, some preferred working for temp agencies as opposed to working in permanent positions to maintain flexibility for a multitude of reasons. Pregnancy, phasing into retirement, unsure of where they may be living, studying, planning long-term vacations, picking up additional shifts to complement their current schedule, expanding their dental network, and or the premium pay that came with temping.

With that being said, we hope to bring the advantages a temp agency brings to Southern Ontario for hygienists/dental assistants and dentists. In larger cities temping is a fundamental part of the dental community. With Windsor-Essex constantly expanding we believe all can benefit from the positives of a reliable, reputable and responsive temp agency. We all deserve to thrive in the dental world and enjoy work-life balance at the same time.
